Al Assad International Airport is located in Damascus, the capital city of Syria. It is the busiest airport in the country, serving both domestic and international flights. It has one main terminal building and two runways, one of which is 4,000 meters long – among the longest in the Middle East.
The airport was originally constructed in 1970, and has undergone several renovations and upgrades since then. It has a capacity to handle up to 2.5 million passengers per year.
Unfortunately, due to the ongoing conflict in Syria, the airport has experienced significant damage, and many international airlines have suspended their operations to and from Damascus. However, some airlines from Iran, Iraq, and Russia have continued to operate flights to the airport.
